François Girard, whose mystical and bloody vision of Wagner's Parsifal has become one of the most intensely visceral highlights of the Met of recent seasons, turns to another Wagnerian masterpiece, Der Fliegende Holländer, directed by Valery Gergiev. For the first time at the Met, Sir Bryn Terfel plays the role of the mysterious Dutchman, condemned to cross the seas for eternity. Der Fliegende Holländer is a co-production with the Opéra de Québec and the Dutch National Opera, Amsterdam.
