Born in Rapide-des-Cèdres, near Senneterre in Abitibi, Virginia Pesemapeo Bordeleau realizes through her pictorial practice the announced destiny of her maternal lineage: Pesemapeo means "rainbow" in the Cree language. Graduated from the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue in 1979, she has maintained a career as a painter for the last 40 years, a career to which was grafted at the turn of the millennium, that of writing. Ourse bleue - Piciskanâw Mask Iskwew draws a parallel between these two practices by presenting a hundred or so pictorial works, a journey punctuated by key texts that reveal a strong and original path of a francophone Cree artist in the Temiscabitian, Quebecois and Canadian landscape.
