The monumental sculpture Enfant Lumière, created by artist Karine Berthiaume, is installed on the water in front of the Lac Osisko esplanade.
Both powerful and poetic, Enfant Lumière invites hope in an era marked by uncertainty. The artist explores the fragile links between humans and nature through the figure of a hybrid child, suspended above the water, reaching toward light and survival. Its slender, organic silhouette evokes human vulnerability, while hinting at the possibility of profound renewal.
Measuring 6 meters high by 6 meters wide, this imposing bronze and glass sculpture was installed directly in the heart of Lake Osisko, in downtown Rouyn-Noranda, a first of its kind in the province of Quebec. The work, which was first presented to the public from the air by helicopter, was then transported to the site on a specially designed barge. These spectacular installation maneuvers, which highlighted the technical prowess of several local contractors, sparked both emotion and collective pride among the hundreds of people who gathered to watch the installation and for the inauguration of the sculpture.
A unique creation whose public unveiling was also unique! Produced with the support of the Youkali Foundation, founded by Ginette Marcotte and Luc Paquet, this sculpture is donated to the Ville de Rouyn-Noranda.
