It starts with almost nothing: first a curiosity about sounds, then the seemingly insignificant purchase of a portable recorder, followed by the sudden emergence of a question: what do I want to record? Finally, an answer: I want to record water. Thus begins the exploration of Lina Choi, who, through residencies and artistic performances, begins to create soundscapes. These take shape through falling rain and flowing rivers, seeking to unravel the mystery of the calm that water and its melodies evoke in us.
During her time at L’Écart, the artist questions the origin of this fascination with water, which she links to the universal, but unremembered, experience of prenatal life. By creating a structure that reproduces the shape of the uterus, in which sounds captured from surrounding waterways will be played, Lina Choi attempts to reproduce this intimate universe that precedes contact with the outside world and invites the public to immerse themselves in it. By superimposing maternal waters and the natural waters in which we bathe daily, the artist hopes to spark discussion and gather testimonials to shed light on our relationship with water and restore the bond that unites us with it.
