Opening reception November 5, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Originally from Val-d’Or and deeply attached to the land, landscapes, and forests of her home region, Sabrina Forget-Matte seeks to blend this raw nature with her vibrant personality. Her aim is not to reproduce nature, which already possesses beauty and balance, but to draw inspiration from it and offer a transformed, imagined version—one that allows us to nurture our inner child and celebrate the unique experience of life. Using plaster strips attached to chicken wire, the artist creates organic forms reminiscent of both the body and nature. A layer of vibrant paint and varnish adds a playful and captivating dimension.
A feminist at heart, and tired of being confined by imposed limitations, Sabrina embraces a maximalist stance and refuses to be restricted. “If I can do more, I will,” she declares. Thus, the world she presents is excessive, colorful, whimsical, sometimes suggestive, always joyful. During her two-week residency, the artist will dedicate herself to creating new works to enhance her Terra Néréïde exhibition so that it occupies all the available space. Sabrina is constructing an immersive environment that extends to the floor in a play of textures and accumulations, through which the public can wander as if in a forest of plants, flowers, coral, candy… and whatever else they wish to see.
