No one expected it, not even him – Stéphane Archambault is returning to music, and it was about time.
Back on stage for the first time since the end of his popular band Mes Aïeux, he’s embarking on a solo career with a show of 12 new songs, augmented by a few carefully chosen covers that resonate with – or have influenced – his compositions. Tales of ruptures and renewals, of time and surroundings, laid out in a narrative arc; an update on who and where he is, focusing on the “I” rather than the “we.” Marked by the French golden age, with phrasing that evokes traditional music with a gentle touch, Archambault presents a multifaceted, generous song, both reverential and a little rough around the edges. An exercise in vulnerability: he sheds his layers to present himself in an intimate, contemplative way – to connect more deeply with an audience he hopes will leave with a smile.
A show offering serene reflections on age and common pitfalls, as well as a lesson in humility from an artist returning to you: launching himself both into the void and into your arms. A debut album is expected this spring – for a reunion filled with shared excitement.
