LA FILLE SANS RÉGIMENT
JEUNESSES MUSICALES DU CANADA IN COPRODUCTION WITH THE QUEBEC OPERA FESTIVAL
In the Tyrol, occupied by Napoleon I’s troops, the vivandière Marie is the object of sincere love for Tonio, a young Tyrolean willing to do anything to marry her off. “Adopted as a child by the Vingt et-unième, a renowned French regiment, Marie miraculously reconnects with her true family in the person of her aunt, the Marquise de Berkenfield, who wishes to unite her with the Duke of Crakentorp. In Donizetti’s French comic opera, we discover lyrical arias that will charm our ears and our hearts, including the famous tenor aria: “Ah! mes amis, quel jour de fête!”, with its nine repeated contra-dos, and Marie’s joyful arias celebrating France, love and the best regiment in the world, morbleu!
