“For the fifth edition of Dialogue, the MA is calling on young female Inuit and Sámi artists from the circumpolar region. We know the traditional Inuk art of stone carving, but the new generation is crossing the lines into Western and contemporary expression, with or without the influence of their origins. The same phenomenon can be found among Sámi artists, who express their divergent interests from their elders by translating political, environmental and feminist concerns. For these artists, both Inuit and Sámi, the use of motifs or subjects from their culture is primarily aimed at raising awareness.”
