In July 2023, a study by the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) confirmed that the air in Rouyn-Noranda was full of contaminants, putting people at a high risk of getting cancer. The reason? The Horne Smelter, the town’s main industry and a symbol of its history.
Jean-Lou David and Gabrielle Izaguirré-Falardeau, two young citizens, decided not to remain silent. With Arsenic mon amour, they offer a committed dialogue, rooted in a “news story” that is more than 40 years old, nuancing the troubled relationship they have with the smelter, this monster of scrap metal and money that reigns supreme in their hometown.
This show is presented by Le Réflecteur and Le Centre jardin Lac Pelletier.
