Nature experiences, Other, Outdoor Activities, Sites and Attractions
When winter covers Rouyn-Noranda in snow, the city becomes one big winter playground. Whether you’re a visitor looking for a magical setting or a local wanting to get some exercise after work, cross-country skiing is an easy way to enjoy winter in the boreal forest. Here are three places to strap on your skis (or snowshoes) and enjoy the fresh air.

1) Club de ski de fond d’Évain
With 32 kilometers of trails winding through a forest of pine, spruce, and aspen trees, the Club d’Évain appeals to beginners and seasoned cross-country skiers alike. You can practice the classic or skate skiing styles, depending on your preference. At every turn, you feel yourself sinking deeper into the tranquility of nature.
Four shelters are located along the trail, providing a place to warm up during your hike. Another great advantage is that 4.8 kilometers of trails are illuminated, perfect for an evening outing.
Need equipment? You can rent classic skis, skate skis, snowshoes, fat bikes, and even baby sleds.
The club organizes several activities and is a meeting place for athletes, families, and friends.
Please note that reservations are required for all equipment. As a courtesy, pets are not allowed, and it is important not to walk on the trails or ride snowmobiles on them.
2) Le Club de ski de fond Granada
Just ten minutes from downtown via Route 391, the Granada Cross-Country Ski Club, in operation since 1977, is renowned for its beautiful scenery and optimal trail conditions. It’s an excellent choice if you’re visiting Rouyn-Noranda and want an outing that’s easy to fit into your schedule, or if you’re looking for a regular place for your winter training. Families are also welcome, with several trails of varying levels available. There are three shelters and 16 km of trails. The club organizes several activities, including a torchlight ski outing, which is truly magical. The chalet is open on weekends and school holidays.
Please note that pets are not allowed, traffic flows on the right, especially on uphill and downhill slopes, and only classic cross-country skiing is permitted (to preserve the trails, please do not use skate skiing).
3) Les Sentiers Skiwanis
Want to get away from it all without leaving the city? The Skiwanis trails, with its rolling hills, transports you to the heart of nature in the blink of an eye. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or simply walking: lakes, forests, and marshes stretch out before you, with a few climbs and descents to add to the fun. There are two possible entry points: Kiwanis Beach and Chemin Senator. Once you cross the railroad tracks, you’ll venture into the woods on the outskirts of town.
Trail maintenance is carried out entirely by volunteers, with financial support from the Club Kiwanis Rouyn-Noranda.
Please note: Dogs are only allowed on snowshoe trails and must be kept on a leash. Before setting off, consult the trail maps and the Les Amis du Skiwanis Facebook page.
Rouyn-Noranda has a trail for you!
Dress in layers, bring a hot drink and some tasty fruit, and let your skis lead you on your next winter adventure!
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the volunteers who maintain the trails each winter and help promote this wonderful sport.
