Cure-Pipe and Dogo Suicide
9 pm
Cure-Pipe is first and foremost the project of Jonquière-Nord-born singer-songwriter Thomas Dakin Perron, who, since 2017, has been actively working to find a sound all his own, while surrounding himself with talented collaborators to create a totally exploded and gripping musical experience. As a result, psychedelic rock and garage pop blend effortlessly with classic rock and hyperpop to create a recipe that’s surprising, a little grimy, but above all, totally true. Thomas doesn’t do things by halves. With Cure-Pipe, he gives himself away completely, without compromise. There are artists who force us to stop and take the time to listen. Thomas is one of them.
Dogo Suicide
Casualness and chaos are the cornerstones of this young trio from downtown Quebec City. Self-proclaimed “post-touting, but pretty punk overall”, Dogo Suicide’s music is reminiscent of bands such as Oktoplut, Lysistrata and At-The Drive In. After a live session in a pizzeria in front of a more or less informed audience, two mini-albums and performances in numerous Quebec cities and in Ontario, the band is preparing its first album and continues to play one show after another.
While the band has quickly made a name for itself with its wild stage performances, during which the word “compromise” remains in the checkroom, it never shies away from an opportunity to slow down the metronome and present calm, sincerely melancholy sections. Inspired by the atmosphere of Quebec City’s seedy taverns, which they can’t get enough of, the members of Dogo Suicide depict the absurdity and paradoxes of the world around them, combining irreverent, zany and sometimes tender lyrics with their music, which is heavily influenced by 90s noise.
