PRESENTATION
(Dé)coudre le temps features 12-year-old Violette, who has just lost her grandmother. Dressed all in black – because that’s what you do when someone dies – Violette takes refuge in Mamie’s room, while the house is full of people dressed in black. But Mamie’s room doesn’t look like a room anymore. It’s a warehouse full of boxes in which Mamie’s objects, memories and life have been crammed. Violette knows almost nothing about her grandmother’s life. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for several years. Digging through the boxes, Violette unearths not only an archive of her life, but more broadly, of women’s history in Quebec.
(Dé)coudre le temps is a feminist theatrical creation for young people aged 8 to 12. The project – imagined, written and directed by Camille Messier – focuses on the themes of feminine memory and transmission, asking the following questions: How can genealogy be understood in feminine terms? Why aren’t women in the history books? What do we know about our grandmothers? How can we find the courage to break free? How can we celebrate women’s heritage?
