Anywhere Everywhere
The exhibition Anywhere Everywhere presents works that have been developed over a period of ten years. The production of a typical portrait repeated in a series that Sandra Brewster will call The Smiths is echoed in her most recent work. In this series of portraits, faces with “Afro” haircuts are collaged from the pages of the telephone book devoted to people named Smith. Each character stands out as both an entity and a crowd of undifferentiated individuals. These works raise a reflection on the visibility of Blacks in the North American public space at the same time as they are a vibrant actualization of it.
