Galaxie has been in the distortion business since D-Day, under the creative direction of one man, Olivier Langevin. Nurtured on greasy blues and saturated with exhilarating guitars, the man is a perpetually evolving creator who steadfastly refuses to shy away from his exploratory leanings. A rocker through and through, he collaborates with an imposing array of today’s Quebec songwriters – sometimes in the roles of producer, producer, musician and, in the present case, leader and songwriter – with disarming ease, hitting the nail on the head wherever he goes. Galaxie is ultimately greater than the sum of its parts – both on record and on stage.
Recognized early on for his talent and undeniable flair for the poetic in the heavy, Galaxie has garnered a slew of awards and honors over the years – ADISQ winner for Rock Album of the Year in 2018 for Super Lynx Deluxe, for Alternative Album and Group of the Year in 2015 for Zulu, and Director and Clip of the Year for Tigre et Diesel in 2011; Short list at the Polaris Prize in 2011 for Tigre et Diesel – in addition to broadening his spectrum by seeing his compositions subject to several high-profile associations: in advertising for RBC, Bell, Mazda, Harley Davidson; on TV for the themes of Format Familial, Lip Sync Battle and Formule Diaz; in film for Trois petits cochons 2; on TV for the Bon Matin Chuck series, and on the ice on several occasions, at field hockey games played at the Bell Centre.
Fully inflated and now a master of Quebec rock, the Galaxie effect grabs you by the scruff of the neck and won’t let go until you’ve learned your lesson and taken it properly. Be warned.
