“I was born in Montreal in 1954, to two parents who were signatories of the historic Refus Global manifesto, Madeleine Arbour and Pierre Gauvreau. This is not, however, a talk that recounts or presents the Refus Global, although I do give a brief description of it in the introduction. Rather, it’s an account of my experiences in a singular environment, which led me to become the artist I am today. The people evoked in this talk are real, although they are tinged with a personal vision, my own.”
